Fire Station Field Trip

Austin went to Fire Station #96 today as a culmination of his "Fire Safety" unit he has been studying in preschool.  As one can see from the picture above, he has NINE boys in his class (4 girls) and they were ecstatic to visit the firemen.

Fun Fact: These guys did not get the memo that we were going to show up--they did an AWESOME job letting the kiddos hop on the truck, shoot the hose, dress up in the gear, visit their kitchen, check out their sleeping quarters, etc.  One truck even left in the middle of our tour because there was a fire!

Swim Lessons

Austin was so happy to be able to ride his horsey!

Motorcyle Man

"Look Mom, I'm a motorcycle man."

"Wow Austin, you look just like Damon!"

"I know, I'm on a motorcycle."

Moral of the story: this kid has not been to his Dad's jobsite OR ridden on a motorcycle!

Magical Monopoly Man

"Look, I am a magic magician."

"Ummm, Austin, I think you are the Monopoly man--a banker."

"No.  I am a magician."

Dancing with Stars (in their eyes)

Austin and Emery LOVE ballet and tap!

Dino Ride

The Houston Zoo has the Dinosaur Exhibit going on.  This one is buried in mulch in one of the green spaces of the zoo.  It was eerily empty at the zoo on this particular day, and Austin climbed the T-Rex and played on him uninterrupted for quite a while.

Snake

1st Baseball Game

Damon and I took Austin to an Astros game on a cool Friday night.  Damon acquired some tickets that included an "All You Can Eat" wristband.  Austin had a hot dog, peanuts, popcorn, and nachos.  He loved being able to walk up to the counter and order anything he wanted.  When he was full, he was done with baseball...and we left!

Running Piano

This piano is in the main hall of Moody Gardens.  It is advertising their next 'Discovery' exhibit.  It was a hit, and it kept the kiddos entertained for a looong time!  We had to pull them away so that we could go into the Rainforest Pyramid.

Emery's Birthday

Snerkling

Austin talks about "snerkling" all of the time since our trip to Florida.  We found a tiny snerkle for him this weekend at the beach.  He loves the idea of it--not so much the thought of putting his face in the water!

Coach

He wanted the sunglasses.  I said, "no way."

A Bunch of Monkeys!

Dinosaur

Houston Zoo has a Dinosaur exhibit right now that includes a lot of the dinos that lived in Texas.  They are life size, they move, and make noises.  It freaked Austin out when we walked in...they were roaring and moving their heads!  But, after LOTS of reassurance, he walked through the rest of the exhibit and loved them by the end.

Who's your Gnome?

At the moment, Austin is on a "Gnomeo and Juliet" kick.  We watch it EVERY DAY.  He was pretty excited when he found a gnome fountain.

Pirate Par-tay

...cause they always have their picture taken with pirate statues!

Hanging out with the Grey Wolf

The zoo in Panama City Beach is a little smaller than the Houston zoo.  And they let you do some questionable things--like pet the wolf!

Surprise!

We told Austin we had a BIG surprise for him.  We drove up to the airport and Joanie climbs in the car.  He looks at us and says, "well....can I at least have some chocolate as another surprise?"

It was the biggest disappointment surprise ever!!!

Chillin'

Mellow Mushroom

We loved this restaurant--even though I think it's name sounds like a head shop.  It makes fresh pizzas with organic ingredients.  It is DELICIOUS!

More than Meets the Eye

This is at a restaurant in Panama City Beach, Florida.  We had to go back to the restaurant a second time so that Austin could spend some more time inspecting this 'robot.'

Magnifying

This exhibit had feathers, snake skin, bean pods, and other items found in the rain forest available for kids to magnify.  Austin loved looking at these things with the magnifying glass.  We spent a good five minutes in this same, humid spot!

Mist and a Monkey

Austin loved playing in the mist that was falling from above...I was freaked out about the monkey hanging on the door handles in front of him!  Eventually, the monkey raced around us and we raced into the building.

Lego Camp

This is the egg beater that Austin made in Lego Camp.  I think this one really focused on gears and axles.  He was really proud of himself--he picked this machine to make on his own.

This is the last day of Lego Camp--He made a robot as a culmination project of simple machines.  It included gears, axles, levers and a pulley.

This was a great camp...I was impressed with the Lego Company for creating this for kids.
